As the apple reached the second town he was still moving with some gumption, but this time he got a chance to look around while he moved through the town. Everywhere he looked were these small trees that could move their roots as they pleased, moving around in groups ignoring the wind's direction. Their bark so pasty and soft, and their leaves barely rustled in the breeze, as the apple looked closer he noticed that some of the trees would get their tiny branches tangled together, seemingly on purpose, it didn't look like any effort was being put into separating.
A little ways in front of the apple was another tree with something attached to it's trunk and ran up along it's branch, the tree was pointing the something at the ground and blowing leaves around.
"That must be where wind comes from!" The apple deduced.
As he rolled past the tree and the machine he tried to yell over the noise
"HELLO!?" he asked into the whirring roar coming from the wind-maker.
The only response was a huge burst of wind that pushed the apple faster, but for a moment or two he was amid the leaves.
"How did.." the leaves were talking to the apple but the wind-maker was drowning them out, "here?" the leaves asked.
"What??" The apple returned.
"More questions! Do ... ev ... stop asking ... " The leaves choppy reply barely cut through the wind-maker's racket.
"Where am I?" The apple continued with his interrogation.
"Here"
"How do these trees move around?"
"Th... aren't trees"
"Then what are they?"
"Somethi... else"
The apple was getting frustrated but continued to ask his questions, "Do you know where I'm supposed to go?"
"No" shortly replied the leaves.
"Well why am I here?"
"Only y... can ..swer that." The leaves muttered as they began to float away from the apple.
"No! Stay here I have so much more to ask!"
"Just rememb... are..." the leaves trailed off again leaving the apple behind to roll through the town, faster thanks to the something-else and its wind-maker.
As the apple observed the something-elses he noticed the difference between the tangled and the free.
The look in the tangled eyes seemed to have more sheen to them.
"That is what I will look for, someone to tangle me up and stop all this rolling."
But by the time the apple had made this decision he had rolled to the edge of the town.
